Singha Park International Balloon Fiesta is a hot air balloon bonanza that takes place annually in February near Chiang Rai, Thailand. The festival is generally considered as one of the top balloon events in the world with participants joining in from over 14 different countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Brazil and Japan. And this year’s event was as spectacular as ever!
The celebration is held at Singha Park, just outside Chiang Rai in northern Thailand (not far from the border with Laos and Myanmar). The park is open all year round to visitors and focuses on sustainable tourism. Set across over 12.8km of fertile land, the areas favourable climate and rich soil has allowed a whole range of flora and vegetation to grow, creating a beautiful natural oasis of meadows and lakes. The park also houses attractions such as the animal park, a sports centre and adventure activities.
The fiesta itself takes place across four days and often coincides with Valentine’s Day – what could be more romantic than a serene hot air balloon ride above the beautiful northern Thailand countryside? There is a whole programme of events across the four days including morning hot air balloon rides, daily balloon contests, and the not-to-be-missed Balloon Magic Night Glow – an after-dark spectacular created by dozens of illuminated balloons.
