The week of 17-23 November 2014 is National Eating In/Out Week – designed “to celebrate the fantastic diversity of cuisines available to diners in Britain and also to raise funds for the less fortunate in the world.”
Today the focus is on Thai cuisine and we are happy to join in the celebrations. Thanks to the popularity of Thailand as a holiday destination, Thai food has earned an international reputation as one of the world’s great cuisines. And here in the UK and Ireland we’ve developed a real taste and appreciation for Thai cuisine.
There are now around 2,000 Thai restaurants and take-aways on the high streets of Great Britain. And the fact that the big supermarket chains now commonly stock Thai food ingredients such as lemongrass, Thai basil, coconut milk, as well as convenient Thai Taste meal kits, shows that we love to cook Green Thai curries and Pad Thai at home as well!
In honour of Thai Cuisine Day, we thought we’d share some Thai restaurant recommendations from around the UK and Ireland.
We recently asked our Facebook fans to nominate their favourite local restaurants, and in no particular order, here they are:
Thai Modern in Milton Keynes
Nominated by Thailand blogger Roy Cavanagh “…For their Sunday buffet lunch. Always lots of Thai people eating there when I’ve been which is always a sign the food is good.”
Esam Kheaw in Shepherd’s Bush, London W12
Also nominated by Roy Cavanagh “…for great food and friendly owners.”
Montien Thai Restaurant, in Westerham, Kent
Nominated by Tracy Brett “…lovely thai food for sunday lunch.”
The Siam Village in Didsbury, near Manchester
Nominated by Nigel Mark Horsley ” Been loads of times and in part encouraged me to visit Thailand.”
En Thai Sing in Mildenhall, Suffolk
