Tell us where you’ve travelled in Thailand
Since 2001 I have travelled to Thailand 12 times, visiting Kanchanaburi, Bangkok, Ban Nam Khem Tsunami Memorial Park at Takua pa, Bang Tao Beach on Phuket, Cha Am and Hua Hin, Koh Samui, and Khao Lak.
What are your favourite places?
Very difficult to decide which place is a favourite. Buzzing Bangkok was great, Bang Tao so restful and beautiful beach but Khao Lak comes out on top. (I found the times I spent in Kanchanaburi and Ban Nam Khem very moving though.)
What and where was your most delicious meal in Thailand?
Chicken Satay and Mussaman Curry at Smile Restaurant, Khao Lak.
Would you rather be on the beach or by a pool?
On one of Thailand’s beautiful beaches.
What are your top 3 must-sees/do in Thailand?
If visiting mainland Thailand, the beautiful tsunami memorial at Ban Nam Khem. Strolling down Pat Pong street in Bangkok and just looking. Continuing my ever-lasting quest to decide which is best . . . Chang or Singha beer.
Your perfect holiday in Thailand would be…?
We visit for six weeks each year. I would love to spend more time there and also see some of the north of Thailand.
What’s your top tip for first-time travellers to Thailand?
Always be respectful of the Thai people and their king . . . and, try to learn some of the language. The Thais are so keen to improve their English and love it when you try a few words in their language (at least please and thank you).
If you could go to Thailand with anyone, who would it be?
I would love to take my daughter and grandchildren to show the some of the lovely places.
