Exclusive Thailand movie night in London 29 May 2014

We’re very excited about our exclusive Thailand Movie Night in London’s famous Borough Market on Thursday May 29th 2014. And we’re even more excited that film lovers and Thailand fans have the exclusive chance to WIN a pair of tickets!

We’ll be showing a famous movie filmed in Thailand, as voted for by you, our Thailand Reunited friends. We’ve partnered with Singha Beer, Monsoon Valley Wine and Sranrom to create our movie night. As well as watching the winning film, winners will get Thai food and drink, popcorn and some surprise entertainment.

For your chance to join us at this exclusive London event, all you have to do is vote for the movie you’d like to be shown on the night. 100 lucky winners* will be picked at random to win a pair of tickets each for them and a friend.

We have five films for for you to choose from, all of which were either based in, or featured Thailand; the James Bond move ‘The Man With The Golden Gun’, Leonardo DiCaprio in ‘The Beach’, the hysterical ‘Hangover 2’, the moving ‘The Railway Man’ or the farcical adventures of ‘Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason’.

1. The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)

Genre: Action – James Bond.

Synopsis: Bond is sent after a device that can harness the power of the sun, and ends up dueling with notorious assassin Scaramanga (Christopher Lee), aka the “Man with the Golden Gun”. The action culminates in a duel between them that settles the fate of the Solex.

Stars: Roger Moore, Christopher Lee, Britt Ekland.

Famous Thai scenes: Khlong and car chases in Bangkok,  car stunt 360° barrel roll over a broken bridge, and Khoa Phing Kan (now referred to as James Bond Island).

2. The Hangover 2 (2011)

Genre: Comedy.

Synopsis: This sequel to The Hangover sees more mayhem ensue when Phil, Stu, Alan, and Doug travel to Thailand for Stu’s wedding. Clearly things don’t go as planned…

Stars: Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, Justin Bartha, Ken Jeong.

Famous Thai scenes: Car chase in Bangkok, wedding in Krabi, The Ancient City (Muang Borang) in Samutprakan, Sirocco Bar in Bangkok (for a ‘Hangovertini’).

3. The Beach (2000)

Genre: Adventure/Drama.

Synopsis: Based on a book by Alex Garland. American college student (Leonardo DiCaprio) travels to Thailand in search of adventure and is given a strange map rumoured to show the location of a beach paradise. Intrigued, he sets out to find it.

Stars: Leonardo diCaprio, Robert Carlyle, Tilda Swinton.

Famous Thai scenes: Maya Bay, on the island of Phi Phi Ley near Phuket, Haeo Suwat Falls in Khao Yai National Park.

4. Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004)

Genre: RomCom.

Synopsis: In this sequel to Bridget Jones’s Diary, Bridget comes to doubt that her Mr Darcy is as committed to the relationship as she is and goes to Thailand with her friend Shazzer. She ends up in a Thai jail accused of drug smuggling and is in need of rescuing. Will Mr Darcy (Colin Firth) come to the rescue or will it be the untrustworthy Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant)?

Stars:  Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant.

Famous Thai scene: Bridget wades into the waves at Nai Yang beach, Phuket.

5. The Railway Man (2013)

Genre:  Biography/Drama.

Synopsis:   A former British Army officer (Colin Firth), who was tormented as a prisoner of war at a Japanese labour camp in Thailand during World War II, where he is forced to work on the Thai-Burma Railway, discovers that the man responsible for much of his treatment is still alive and sets out to confront him.

Stars:  Colin Firth, Nicole Kidman, Stellan Skarsgård, Jeremy Irvine.

Famous Thai scenes: Kanchanaburi, Death Railway
